Advocacy and Public Policy Change

We advocate for inclusive systems, stronger support, and public policy change that improves the lives of individuals with disabilities and their families.

Through strategic partnerships with leading advocacy organizations, we actively engage in policy efforts at the local, state, and national levels including advocacy on Capitol Hill. We also create opportunities for families to attend conferences and directly engage with legislators, ensuring their voices are heard in the decisions that impact their lives.

Our advocacy is not just participation, it drives results. In 2024, our efforts contributed to a wage increase for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in Illinois, securing a $1 increase for the essential workforce that supports individuals with disabilities.

We are also supporting the expansion of Courtney’s Law in Oklahoma (SB 1203), championed by our Ambassador and Board Member, Courtney Gaines, alongside her mother, DeAnna Gaines, a member of our Board of Directors, as well as similar legislation nationwide to advance protections, resources, and equitable access for individuals with disabilities.

This legislation requires healthcare providers to deliver accurate, up-to-date information about chromosomal conditions, such as Down syndrome, at the time of diagnosis ensuring families receive informed, supportive guidance from the very beginning.
