OUR STORY

1st School Supply Drive

At Empower Society 21, our mission is to create a world where individuals with special needs and their families have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they deserve.

We are committed to driving global change through advocacy,

community engagement, and innovative solutions that empower families, strengthen connections, and transform lives.

Empower Society 21, Inc. is more than an organization, it is the living legacy of love, purpose, and an unshakable belief that all things are possible.

Founded by sisters Tiana Williams and Tinesha Williams, Empower Society 21 was born from lived experience — a journey shaped by resilience, advocacy, and a deep understanding of what families truly need.

Tinesha, who had Down syndrome, was more than a sister.
She was a light. A force. A reminder that ability is not defined by limitations, but by purpose.

Through her life, she transformed the way Tiana saw the world, not through barriers, but through possibility which was inspired by the belief of their parents Larry and Tawana Williams, and eventually alongside the sisters younger brother, Samuel.

And through Tinesha's legacy, a movement was born.

Where It All Began

Like so many families, we experienced the gaps firsthand.
The search for resources… The lack of access… The overwhelming feeling of navigating systems that were never built with our families in mind.

Tiana didn’t just see the problem, she felt it.
And instead of accepting it, she made a decision:

To build what didn’t exist.

That vision became Empower Society, a platform, a community, and a growing global ecosystem designed to connect families to the resources, support, and opportunities they deserve.

From that vision, the Empower Society App was created, expanding access and bringing vital services directly to families around the world.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

In 2020, during one of Empower Society’s first major milestones - a successful school supply drive serving families of individuals with Down syndrome and other abilities in need, then tragedy struck. Tinesha passed away.

In the midst of unimaginable loss, there was a choice:
To stop… or to continue. And, Tiana chose to continue. She transformed her grief into purpose.
Her pain into impact.
Her love into legacy.

Empower Society 21 became more than an organization, it became a promise:
That Tinesha’s life would continue to change lives.

A Legacy Recognized Across Illinois

In honor of Tinesha Williams’ life, legacy, and birthday, Empower Society 21 proudly celebrates the official recognition of Wonderfully Made Day,  proclaimed by the State of Illinois on November 12.

State of Illinois Proclamation for Wonderfully Made Day

Since 2024, this day has stood as a powerful statewide movement dedicated to celebrating, educating, and uniting communities in support of individuals with Down syndrome, autism, and other diverse abilities.

More than a day, it is a declaration.

A declaration that every individual is seen.
Every ability is valued.
And every life is worthy of celebration.

Observed across schools, communities, and organizations throughout Illinois, Wonderfully Made Day creates space for awareness, empowerment, and meaningful connection - bringing families, educators, and advocates together in unity.

And at its heart, it is deeply personal.

November 12 is not only a day of statewide impact - it is also Tinesha’s birthday.

A day that now carries both remembrance and purpose.
A day where her life continues to inspire joy, connection, and transformation in the lives of so many.

Through Wonderfully Made Day, her legacy lives on - not only in memory, but in movement.

A Movement in Motion

Today, Empower Society 21 is a growing force for global change.

We don’t just raise awareness.
We drive transformation.

Through advocacy, we have helped influence policy - including contributing to a wage increase for Direct Support Professionals in Illinois and supporting legislation that impacts the lives of individuals with Down syndrome and other abilities nationwide.

Through partnerships with organizations like the National Down Syndrome Society, Best Buddies, and GiGi’s Playhouse, we continue to expand our reach and deepen our impact.

In 2024, Tiana was honored as NDSS Ambassador of the Year, representing families across the country and advocating directly on Capitol Hill.
