Who Are We

Founded in 2019 in Chicago, Illinois, Empower Society 21 was born from the love and inspiration of two sisters, Tiana and Tinesha Williams. Tinesha, who had Down syndrome, profoundly shaped Tiana's journey as a caretaker and advocate, igniting a passion to create meaningful change in the lives of individuals with special needs and their families.

Tiana recognized a pressing need: parents and caretakers often struggled to find accessible resources and services for their children or grandchildren. This realization propelled her into action. Through extensive research, Tiana discovered significant gaps in resource availability, leading her to envision a solution. Thus, Empower Society and its innovative app were created, designed to bridge these gaps by connecting families with essential services, resources, and businesses within their local communities.

In 2020, the sisters conducted their first successful mobile school supply drive, garnering enthusiastic support from community members and social media followers. Tragically, this success came with the loss of Tinesha. While the grief of losing her sister was immense, Tiana channeled her heartache into honoring Tinesha's memory and legacy through Empower Society.

Our mission is to drive global change for individuals with special needs. We take pride in our advocacy efforts that influenced significant legislative changes, including securing a $1 wage increase for Direct Support Professionals (DSP) workers who provide essential care for individuals with Down syndrome and other abilities, thanks to our collaboration with the Governor of Illinois.

Additionally, we have supported critical legislative actions related to organ transplants, the reauthorization of Alzheimer’s initiatives, and increased funding for public health efforts supporting individuals with congenital heart disease. Partnering with organizations like the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), we strive to push for policy changes that benefit individuals in our community.

Empower Society is also proud to support various organizations that share our vision. We actively participate in events like the Best Buddies Friendship Walk, NADS’s baskets program and fashion show, GiGi’s Playhouse, the Chicagoland Buddy Walk, and the Autism Partnership Foundation. Tiana was honored to be awarded NDSS Ambassador of the Year in 2024, and she had the privilege of participating in Hill Day, where she engaged with congressmen and women to discuss legislative priorities affecting our community.

Since then, Empower Society has empowered hundreds of families, offering a variety of programs and services tailored to meet their needs. Through our mobile app directory, we connect families to vital resources and services, providing daily in-app empowerment messages, affirmation cards, and a wealth of educational materials such as eBooks and mindset books.

Our mission extends beyond resources. We host parent and sibling workshops and mentorship programs to foster a supportive community. With the success of our School Supply Drive, we have provided assistance to over 500 students and families in need, ensuring that education remains accessible to all.

We believe in strengthening the connection between school and home, empowering families, teachers, and staff alike. Our Kingdom Billionaires Academy offers financial literacy and wealth-building tools, equipping families with the knowledge they need to thrive.
